The 2023 Air Jordan 11 Retro ‘Gratitude’: A Tribute to MJ’s Legacy

Enthusiasts had hoped for a variety of exciting colorways, but Jumpman has already made a decision—to bring back the coveted Air Jordan 11 “DMP.” This shoe, originally part of the “Defining Moments” Pack that celebrated Michael Jordan’s 1991 and 1996 NBA Championships alongside the Air Jordan 6, was exceptionally rare. Since its initial release, fans have eagerly awaited the return of this black and gold masterpiece.

Originally launched in 2006, the Air Jordan 11 “DMP” distinguishes itself with a White leather upper, a departure from the traditional mesh, complemented by Black patent leather overlays. The branding elements receive a touch of opulence with Metallic Gold accents. For the first time, the pair features high-cut patent leather atop a White midsole and a translucent icy outsole.

This rendition boasts a white tumbled leather upper and a black patent leather edging that encircles the shoe. Metallic Gold embellishments adorn the Jumpman logo on the heel and the ’23’ insignia at the rear. Enhancing comfort and performance, a Phylon midsole incorporates Nike Air cushioning, while a robust carbon fiber shank plate and a translucent rubber outsole complete the ensemble.

The Air Jordan 11 “DMP” not only symbolizes Jordan’s greatness but also played a pivotal role in shaping sneaker culture, introducing the concept of camping out for releases.

Designed by the renowned Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 11 is not only Jordan’s favorite but also Hatfield’s cherished creation. Its debut in 1995 coincided with Jordan’s historic 72-10 season with the Bulls, etching its place in NBA history.

As for weight, the Jordan 11s tip the scales at 16.5 ounces, slightly heavier than the X model. Interestingly, despite the weight, many find it remarkably comfortable and not burdensome.

Pros of the Air Jordan 11 include its timeless aesthetic, excellent traction on clean surfaces, cushioning, secure fit, stability, and containment. However, as the rubber ages, traction can become less reliable, especially on dusty floors. The cushioning, while still effective, could benefit from modern updates. Additionally, the presence of a carbon fiber shank plate lends the shoe a stiffer feel compared to newer models.

The eagerly anticipated Air Jordan 11 “DMP” (Defining Moments) is set to make its grand return in 2023, serving as this year’s holiday release.

This timeless edition of the Air Jordan 11 adorns a White, Black, and Metallic Gold color palette. It showcases a White tumbled leather upper, a departure from the traditional mesh, and is accentuated by Black patent leather overlays. The shoe’s allure is further heightened by a Metallic Gold-embossed Jumpman logo gracing the lateral ankle and the “23” embellishment on the heels. For the first time, this rendition features a high-cut patent leather upper, sitting atop a White midsole and a translucent outsole with an aged-like finish. The release comes complete with special packaging and will be available in a full range of sizes to cater to the entire family.

The Air Jordan 11 “DMP” in the Defining Moments collection is scheduled to hit the shelves on December 9th, with select Jordan Brand retailers, Nike.com, and Stadium Goods being the prime destinations. The retail price is set at $230 USD however it is available at jordan11dmp.com!
